Cottonwood Heights sits on the southeast bench of the Salt Lake Valley at the mouths of Big Cottonwood and Little Cottonwood canyons, which lead to Solitude, Brighton, Snowbird and Alta. It incorporated as a city in 2005 after decades as an unincorporated area.
Most homes are single-family houses built from the 1960s through the 1990s, many with mountain views on the higher benches, plus condos and townhomes near Fort Union Boulevard. Buyers often weigh canyon access and the Big Cottonwood Canyon Park and Butler Hill areas against prices elsewhere in the valley.
